Dr James Rafferty

Senior Statistician (Statistical Modelling)

Dr Jim Rafferty is a senior statistician at Swansea University. His undergraduate and postgraduate education was in theoretical physics, and as such he is interested in understanding healthcare data using mathematical modelling. Jim has worked on projects such as exploring risk factors for diabetic retinopathy, understanding the risk of mortality in people with type 1 diabetes following a severe hypoglycaemic episode, and the clustering of multiple long-term conditions. Prior to working on projects involving routine healthcare data, Jim worked on the epidemiology of injuries in professional Rugby Union, and for a medical physics research company. As part of the MAGENTA project, Jim will develop the modelling methods to understand how pregnancy outcomes are affected by heat using the routine data stored in the SAIL Databank.
